Intra-Club Competition Information

Guys,

Below is the information for the 1st HKBJJA intra club tournament which is both a gi and no-gi event. The first post is from Lawrence and the second post is from Thomas (most of you will have probably seen it on your e-mails but I'll post it just in case for those who haven't seen it). Hope to see you all there!

Subject: 1st HKBJJA intra-club tournament - no-gi info

Dear All,

I'm pleased to announce that we'll have HKBJJA's 1st intra-club tournament
this Saturday, Nov 20, 2004. It'll be a relaxed and fun event that'll give
you the opportunity to test your skills within a friendly environment with
familiar faces. This email only talks about the no-gi submission wresting
side of the tourney to get things moving. Tom will resend this along with
the gi tourney details and other arrangements. Hence, besides venue, time
and rules below, all else may be revised. However, I'm sending this in
advance because we need you to pre-book your participation ASAP.

PLEASE EMAIL ME at MOI@LAWRENCEWAN.COM IF PARTICIPATING, ALONG WITH WEIGHT
and DIVISION BEFORE FRIDAY 5:30PM.

If can't participate but can help out with setup, timing, score keeping,
video/photo taking, please let me know.

Venue: Island East Sports Centre, 52 Lei King Road, Sai Wan Ho. 5/F, Room 3.
Go to Sai Wan Ho MTR stop, A exit, and takes approx. 8 mins walk to the
centre. Look at the attached map for more info.

Time: 2:30 - 6pm (come at 2:30 sharp to warm-up and help set-up mats. Strict
start time given time restrictions (they kick us out by 6pm sharp)

Cost $100 for participation, covers both gi and no-gi or just one

Prizes: TBC but Angela says she'll be donating brand name watches retailing
for HK$2,500+!!!

Weight Classes
1) Below 80kg
2) Above 80kg

Division
1) Beginners (less than 1 years training experience)
2) Intermediate/Advance (more than 1 years training experience)
NOTE - may put together the divisions if not enough intermediate/advance guys


HKBJJA no-gi submission grappling rules (adapted from the ADCC and Grapplers Quest rules)


Legal Techniques
- Any kind of choke or crank with or without the use of the uniform
- Any armbar, shoulder lock, or wrist lock
- Any Leg Lock or Ankle Lock


Illegal Techniques

- No heel hooks or twisting leg locks or neck cranks (except for blue belt/intermediate and above divisions)
- No striking / kicking of any kind
- No eye gouging or fish hooking
- No grabbing the ears
- No hair pulling, biting
- No finger or toe holds
- No thumbing
- No scratching and pinching
- No touching groin area
- No hands, knees or elbows on face
- No pulling on clothing (except if wearing a kimono)
- No slippery substances allowed on body or clothing
- No slamming (Takedowns not considered slamming unless intent to injure as determined by the referee)

Points: must maintain position for 3 seconds
2 - Mount position
2 - Sweep
2 - Passing the guard (and establishing to any other position except standing up)
2 - Takedown (cleanly initiated and executed, to guard or half guard)
3 - Takedown (cleanly initiated and executed, passes the guard)
3 - Back mount with 2 hooks


Lost points
-1 - Go to your back
-1 - Running away


Advantage: submission attempts that posed a real threat to the other fighter, near takedowns, near sweep, near passes etc.

Any player with top position who makes no attempt to advance will be viewed as inferior to player in the guard position who is making attempts at advancing. Advantages will only be used in the case of a tie with points.

No Stalling

-The referee will issue warnings for the 1st offense of stalling (i.e. backing out of the guard without engaging, butt scooting, fleeing the ring to avoid takedown/submission attempts). The 2nd offense will result in a 2 Point deduction. A 3rd offense will result in a disqualification.

The winner will be decided according to:
- If one competitor gives up or submits by tapping the leg, arm or verbally
- If a fighter breaks the rules twice he will be disqualified by the Referee
